Project Overview
Bedtime sonic fables is a sonic experience designed to transport participants through a dream-like journey, mirroring the fluid transitions of the sleep cycle. Blending Dhrupad vocals with live electronic soundscapes and acoustic sound textures the performance creates an evolving landscape of shifting sonic states. Inspired by the nonlinear nature of dreams, each section represents a distinct dream world, flowing seamlessly from ethereal expanses to abstract noise, from drifting through the ocean’s depths to slipping in and out of the surrounding soundscape, where distant echoes of life linger like memories between sleep and wakefulness. At the heart of the space, a water cymatics installation visually translates sound into organic, hypnotic patterns, allowing audiences to both hear and see the vibrations of the sonic environment.
Expected Impact
One of our most beautiful experiences with sound and music have been in a space where the divide between an artist and the audience truly dissolves, the group is intimate, keenly and actually listening. The other part of music that we really feel deeply about is experimenting and pushing boundaries. The experimental music scene especially in intimate settings is pretty small currently in India. We hope that projects such as ours helps in harnessing a listening audience that values this kind of an experience and realises the importance and impact music and sound can have on someone who is truly present, listening and part of it.
Applicant Background
pause.dxa is an experimental sound and music experience project founded by Sahitya and Harsh based in Auroville, India. Starting as a sound immersion project in January 2023, pause.dxa has evolved into an exploration of how one experiences sound and music, pushing the boundaries of traditional and electronic elements. Our work is heavily inspired by the perspective of merging traditional sound practices and modern approaches. Going back to our respective roots, we bring together Dhrupad vocal improvisation along with electronically synthesized soundscapes with drones, modular synthesis, field recordings and more. The project has worked across diverse formats and showcased their music and shared sound in multiple venues, festivals across India and abroad. Some of the notable ones being: Ozora Festival Hungary, MaHalla Berlin, Burning Donkey Festival Sri Lanka, Magnetic Fields Festival, G5A Warehouse, Harkat Studios and GAIA Festival.
