The piece foregrounds the artisan and the craft itself, offering a space where traditional block printing is not just preserved but re imagined. By collaborating directly with artisans, the work aims to become a living archive of collective and intergenerational knowledge. It aims to elevate and reclaim age old craft as a potent medium of artistic expression one that is not nostalgic but very much a deeply alive, adaptive and relevant to the contemporary art discourse. In this collaboration, the artisan becomes pivotal in pushing the boundaries of what this ancient practice can become.
Applicant Background
In Sanctum is envisioned for undisturbed, intentional artistry. The word "sanctum" represents a focused, protected space. In this sanctum, the act of making and creating thrives, shielded from distractions and external demands. Each piece created under this umbrella aims to embody an uninterrupted personal expression of craftsmanship — an honest, unfiltered dialogue between the material, the maker, and the process. Across all my explorations — creating block prints, or sculpting with wood — a unifying thread runs through my practice. My design ethos is rooted in a respect for tradition and innovation within that framework. Create pieced where artistry thrives, created in a realm shielded from distractions, created in sanctum.
